Welcome to Year 1!
I would like to welcome you all to Year 1.
Teachers

Things to note:
- P.E is on a Monday this term – please have kit in school! This includes a white top, black shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms and pumps.
- Learning log challenges (Homework) will be handed out on a Thursday to be returned by the following Tuesday.
- Reading books will be RWI, that will be sent home either every 3 days or 5 days depending on the group your child is in.
Spring 1
This term we will be:
English
We will reading 10 things I can do to help my world. We will learning to write a letter and write instructions to help our animals during the cold weather.
Maths
We will be learning about positions, numbers to 20 and addition and subtraction within 20 .
Science
We will be learning about animals and their habitats as well as learning about the season spring.
Geography
We will be learning about hot and cold countries, focusing on the weather and climate.
RE
we will be learning about Jesus and why he was so special.

Penguins live in the Antarctic, in the South Pole and polar bears live in the North Pole.
How do these animals stay warm?
Lets find out!
Put your hands in the icy water.
Does it feel comfortable?
Does it feel warmer when you wear a woolly glove?
Does it stay warm when the ice starts to melt?
Cover your hand with fat and put your hand back in the water.
Does it feel icy cold?
How do animals stay warm in cold countries?
The fat on your hand is like the blubber on the animals and stops them feeling the wet and cold.

Science
We will be learning about animals and their habitats as well as learning about the season spring.
