Aims and Objectives

Through our teaching of science we aim to:

  • help children understand the importance of science in an ever increasingly scientific and technological world;
  • foster concern about, and actively care for, our environment;
  • develop our children’s scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics as outlined in the National Curriculum Science programmes of study;
  • promote enjoyment of learning through practical activity, investigation, exploration, collaboration, observation and evaluation;
  • encourage children to ask and answer scientific questions and to lead their own enquiry;
  • develop the use of scientific language, recording and techniques;
  • help children plan and carry out scientific investigations, using equipment safely and correctly;
  • enable children to become effective communicators of scientific ideas, facts and data and learn ways to evaluate and present their conclusions clearly and accurately;
  • develop the cross-curricular use of science in other subjects;
  • develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards science.
