Year 1

I cannot believe we have reached the end of the academic year.

What a year it has been! We all did not expect to be completing our final days in Year 1 with only eight pupils.

To celebrate we had a movie afternoon with treats and a film, all vegan and halal friendly.

The last few weeks have been wonderful with the children back in school.

We have done lots of fun creative activities in the afternoon for our sensory garden.

Tell me about you week

Taking place on Wednesday 17th June is World Day to Combat Desertification.

This day promotes awareness of the desertification of the Earth's drylands and support efforts to combat this to prevent climate change.

Desertification is when beautiful land is being destroyed.

This can cause the world to change around us. It can stop plants and grass from growing and animals can get hungry.

What is climate change?

Climate change can harm all the animals that we read about in our story 'One day on our blue planet in the savannah'.

If you were trapped on an island with little food or water, like some of the animals from our book, what would you take with you?

One Day On Our Blue Planet In The Antarctic

Our story 'One day on our blue planet in the Savannah' we looked at animals living in hot places.

we know climate change can cause changes to all part of our planet.

Let's read about animals living in cold places. 'One day on our blue planet in the Antarctic' that could also be effected.

Lets see how quickly ice can melt, this can happen through climate change and destroy the Antarctic where these animals live.

We already know what we can do to help our world.

Can you remember?

Let's look at our story again '10 things we can do to help my world'.

10 Things I Can Do to Help my World

We are little. The world is big! What can YOU do to help this earth of ours?

So what can you do?

Can you complete this craft activity?

Completing a wellbeing craft activity together is a lovely way to support the mental wellbeing of your child. By talking about things you are looking forward to doing in the future, it creates a sense of hope. Encourage children to talk about things they would like to do in the future and include some of your own ideas too. These can be everyday activities that are not present at the time, such as going to visit friends and family, to more significant events or activities, such as going on holiday or visiting the beach.

Please email your photographs to year1@holytrinitybury.org.uk. I can then share them with you next week.

Timetable for week commencing Monday 6th April :)

Reading

Pick out 5 common exception words from the list given. Can you have ago at reading and spelling each of them.

WC Monday 6th April 2020

Below are activities which are suggested in the timetable document above.

Writing

You and your family are living through a significant moment in history. Writing a diary about what each of you thinks, what you feel, what you worry about, what you find funny and everything else that goes through your minds can help members of the family in many different ways:

It will contain valuable memories that you can reread in the future.

Expressing feelings in writing can help us accept them more easily, bringing them out of our         hearts and minds so we can feel more relaxed and connected.

Diaries can also contain artwork which is precious to keep.

Helpful tips:

* Remember that contributing to the family diary is optional – don’t force anybody to participate.

* Allow members of the family to change their mind – we don’t always feel like writing and some    days we have a lot to say.

* Members of the family might want their diary entries shared… or not! Diary writing can be             private and it’s important to respect this privacy.

'WANTED' poster

Choose a character from your favorite story. Create a wanted poster for your character.

Miss Dublin RWI group. Draw your character and draw the crime

Draw your character. List characteristics (eye colour ect). Write the crime. Why are they wanted. How much reward.

Maths

In maths we have looked at number bonds to 20. Below there is 4 challenges to be completed.

In year 1 we sit on tables Circles, Triangles, Squares and Hexagons. Your child should know which table they sit.

Circles table to complete Challenge 1 & 2.

Triangles, Squares and Hexagons tables to complete Challenge 1, 2 & 3.

If you want to challenge your child further complete Challenge 4.

Mindfulness

During this hard time it is very important to look after yours and your child's mental well-being.

Below I have provided mindfulness activities for your child to complete.

Enjoy :)
