Aims and Objectives
Through our teaching of science we aim to:
- help children understand the importance of science in an ever increasingly scientific and technological world;
- foster concern about, and actively care for, our environment;
- develop our children’s scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics as outlined in the National Curriculum Science programmes of study;
- promote enjoyment of learning through practical activity, investigation, exploration, collaboration, observation and evaluation;
- encourage children to ask and answer scientific questions and to lead their own enquiry;
- develop the use of scientific language, recording and techniques;
- help children plan and carry out scientific investigations, using equipment safely and correctly;
- enable children to become effective communicators of scientific ideas, facts and data and learn ways to evaluate and present their conclusions clearly and accurately;
- develop the cross-curricular use of science in other subjects;
- develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards science.
