Autumn 1

Nursery

Here is a snapshot of what we got up to in Autumn 1

The children have settled into nursery really well. They have formed friendships and have got to know their classroom and outdoor environments.

We have settled into our new class and made lots of friends!

Our topic for Autumn 1 was 'What do I do with water?'

The nursery children have had lots of opportunities to immerse themselves in water. They played with water in the classroom adding a variety of resources to explore and play with water.

The children put on waterproof jackets and welly boots to ''jump in muddy puddles.''

We read a range of water related story books.

*Pig in the Pond

*Mrs Wishy Washy

*The River

The children LOVED reading 'Pig in a Pond'

We began predicting what the story might be about.

We looked at the farm animals in the book. We learnt about the different animals.

The children learnt about farm animals by creating a farm using small world animals, painting and colouring pictures and creating models with play-dough. The children also made animal masks and imitated the animals in the farm. Take a look!

Towards the end of term and the lead up to Halloween, we read 'Room on the Broom.' The children thoroughly enjoyed this book.

We created a spooky area in our classroom. It included witches hats, capes, wands, potions, spell books and lots more!

We began by predicting what the story would be about. The children looked at the front cover and shared their responses.

During our spooky week, the children dressed up, created magic spells using a range of objects, made toffee apples, coloured pictures, coloured and cut out masks and made chocolate wands!

Room on the Broom! Take a look- we had so much fun!

Phonics

We cover phase 1 phonics everyday in nursery. This term we have been looking to develop our listening skills and awareness of sounds in the environment. We have looked at environmental sounds, Instrumental Sounds, Body Percussion and Voice Sounds.

We have loved singing our nursery rhymes.

Mrs Aslam has a bag full of objects. Listen to the sound of each object? Can you guess what object it is?

In PE the children enjoyed 'Dance' with our special coach Chloe!

Our favourite song to bop to was....Baby Shark!

We also took part in a variety of warm up exercises. One of our favourites was to collect coloured cones as fast as we could!
